Get more out of your machinery with MSC MillMax®

Keeping you ahead of the game with optimised milling performance

As with any other type of machinery, optimised milling equipment is critical to maximising productivity. But some engineers are conservative when it comes to making changes to speed and feed. Others will tinker with settings such as toolholding, helix angles, ejection distance or changing toolpaths to alter radial engagement and depth of cut. Both of these approaches aren’t based on data, instead, they rely on guesswork and gut feel.

This means these methods aren't necessarily the best way to address tool vibration or ‘chatter’. This emanates from the frequency of the tool assembly, which can alter depending on multiple factors such as machine configuration, tool set-up, material, work holding, and running speed.

The ultimate goal is to ensure the tool is running concentrically with a stable set-up. But this can take time to achieve or may even be ignored as it is sometimes assumed that the best set-up is already in place.

The solution? MSC MillMax®.

How does it work?

Exclusively available to MSC Direct customers, MSC MillMax® takes the guesswork out of optimisation, replacing the traditional trial-and-error approach with a scientifically proven method.

How do we do this? By interpreting information from previous jobs to ensure the best possible machine settings along with continuous improvements that are vital to shopfloor success.

In as little as 15 minutes, MSC MillMax® scientifically identifies the areas of stability specific to the spindle range of any milling machine configuration.
It does this by recording and analysing frequencies from millions of milling assembly combinations to deliver a secure, stable process with optimised feed rates and axial and radial cutting.

Through this simple tap test, combined with our industry-leading metalworking expertise, MSC MillMax® identifies cutting parameters which will deliver the very best metal removal rates while reducing cycle times, optimising stability and extending tool life.

The Process

As soon as you request our MSC MillMax® service, one of our expert engineers will contact you and set up the tap test.

The test generates a custom dashboard, giving you all the information you need on both tool assembly and cutting parameters.

Our engineers will help you interpret that data to achieve the best possible combination for your own application - but the support doesn’t end there.

We’ll also make unbiased recommendations from our vast array of products. Pulling from the leading brands in metalworking we help your equipment to perform at its best.

What can MillMax® Deliver?

MSC MillMax® is proven in delivering quantifiable improvements in performance, with a measurable impact on the bottom line, including:
